The BT upgrade plan follows 7 stages and typically takes around 12 months to complete:

No Plan: No plan is in effect for the area.
In Scope: Part of a fibre upgrade plan but with no specific date when the work will begin.
Design: Network planning and assessing the best way to bring fibre to the area.
Field Study: Checking that the design works in the real world. Making sure the location for the new cabinets is suitable.
Build: Installing cabinets, ducting and connecting to existing infrastructure.
Connect: Power now being connected to the cabinet.
Activate: Final quality and safety checks.
Fibre Enabled: Orders for new fibre broadband now accepted.

Past Updates

Following a meeting with BT and Southwark Council in July 2015, BT Openreach updated their fibre upgrade plan for the Bermondsey Exchange. There are several areas in Rotherhithe that are now being considered for upgrading.

While it is welcome news that BT Openreach are now, at least, upgrading parts of Rotherhithe it is still leaves a large areas without access to better broadband.

Cabinets on Finland Street now in Connect phase and will soon be able to order BT fibre.

Cabinets on Needleman Street now live. Hithe Point, and flats on Christopher Close, most of Garter Way & a very small part of Woodland Crescent are now be able to order BT fibre.

Cabinet for Lighter Close nr Greenland Dock now in Connect phase. Soon to go live.

The new cabinets being installed on Rotherhithe St next to Bury Close.

Cabinets on Needleman Street and Chambers Wharf still in the 'Connect' phase.

No update on the Timber Pond Rd or Finland St cabinets.

The new cabinets on Needleman Street are now being commissioned. Hithe Point, and flats on Christopher Close, most of Garter Way & a very small part of Woodland Crescent will soon be able to order BT fibre.

Cabinet 26 now taking orders (George Row, East Lane, John Felton Rd).

New cabinets are being installed on Timber Pond Rd. No update on properties to be served by this or the Finland St cabinets.

Two new sets of cabinets have been installed on Finland St and Needleman St. These are currently in the build phase and will be providing fibre but we have no detail for which residences as Openraech have stopped publishing their roll-out information for SE16.

The cabinet at Chambers Wharf has been progressed to the 'Connect' stage. No further progress in Rotherhithe.

Some progress has been made since the end of June with two cabinets in Bermondsey moving from the 'Field Study' to 'Build' stage. No further progress in Rotherhithe.
